Laura Kurek is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a passion for helping people to improve their relationships with themselves and with each other. Laura has a deep compassion for others, as well as a love of personal and spiritual growth. She also knows firsthand how supportive therapy can be as her own struggles with anxiety have enabled her to experience hope and healing through working with a therapist.
Laura has a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Western Seminary. She has extensive training in how to integrate psychology and theology, as well as years of experience supporting kids, teens, adults and families in healing through many different challenges. Over and over again she has seen that people are wired to heal but are often stuck and unable to move forward without support. She is most passionate about helping people tune-in to their own internal experience in order to heal and often utilizes the Internal Family Systems model of therapy in order to assist in this process. Her past experience includes working at a school-based counseling center and a faith-based nonprofit, both located in Sacramento, where she was able to help people of all different ages through a multitude of difficult issues. More recently she worked at the Parents Center, a local nonprofit whose mission is to help Santa Cruz County’s most needy kids and families through providing mental health and parenting support.
Laura is a certified Prepare-Enrich facilitator and loves working with couples to deepen intimacy and improve communication. She also has special expertise in treating anxiety (specifically Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). Please visit Laura's website at www.laurakurekmft.com to learn more about how she can help.
Laura, her husband and their two young sons feel so blessed to live in such a beautiful area with so many fun things to do outdoors. When she has free time, Laura loves exploring the redwoods and running on the beach. She and her family attend Faith Community Church.
