Here are some frequently asked questions about being a part of Relational Resources:

Do I have to be a Christian to join the Relational Resources team?

All of our therapists profess faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. They live out this faith in different ways. Many of our therapists work with clients of all different faiths, but a shared faith in Jesus is one of the things that sets Relational Resources apart as a counseling group.

Is Relational Resources a group counseling practice?

No. Relational Resources is a group of licensed therapists, each of whom operates their own private practice, who share the same faith in Jesus and who have joined together to share some of the costs associated with running a private practice. We share referrals with one another and support each other in the work that we do, but each therapist sets their own fees and determines whether or not to contract with various insurance providers.

How does being part of the group work?

After an interview with Laura (the director of Relational Resources), if both parties desire to move forward, a therapist begins an initial 6-month trial period as a renter at Relational Resources. There is a requirement to rent at least 1 day/month at the Relational Resources offices in Aptos in order to be a part of the group. During this trial period, the therapist begins renting office space with Relational Resources. After the 6-month period is up, if both parties feel it’s a good fit, the therapist has the opportunity to become an affiliate of Relational Resources. This means that the therapist can order business cards with the shared Relational Resources image, be displayed on the Relational Resources website, and be covered under Relational Resources’ general liability insurance policy. There is an annual affiliate fee of $100 (or $10/month).

Will I get a lot of referrals if I join the Relational Resources team?

That depends. Relational Resources is a well-known resource in the Santa Cruz County area and beyond and has a great reputation with many local churches and individuals. Prospective clients are often referred to Relational Resources and, after looking at the website, contact the individual therapists with whom they’re interested in working. Also, many of the therapists at Relational Resources have been in practice for years and have full case loads, and they are a good source of referrals for a newer therapist who is looking to build their referral base. As new therapists develop relationships with the other therapists at Relational Resources, they often see their referrals begin to increase.

Does Relational Resources employ MFT Associates?

Not at this time, although we have a goal of creating an Associate program in the future. Stay tuned!
